::: I don't think answering one's own challenge counts as cheating -- you still have to do two hashes that probably aren't a guarantee -- and I don't think proximity affects whether it's cheating, so the question is whether the combination would. I'd say no, but I can see the argument that if they're planned at the same time (a pair of weekend hashes for instance) that would defeat the call-and-response nature of it. Ultimately there are no judges in geohashing besides the hasher, so there's room for difference of opinion here :) Arlo (talk) 03:49, 23 January 2021 (UTC) | ::: I don't think answering one's own challenge counts as cheating -- you still have to do two hashes that probably aren't a guarantee -- and I don't think proximity affects whether it's cheating, so the question is whether the combination would. + | :::: I tend to agree with Arlo, the achievement explicitly mentions that a hasher can complete their own challenge and I've even done it a couple times. The one time where it might be considered shameless indulgence is when I issued a challenge for Erie when I went to Erie, Pennsylvania for a Virgin expedition on the tiny piece of land in that Graticule. I figured I would be completing the challenge on one of the next couple expeditions seeing as I live in Erie County in New York. But I still had to wait for a viable hash to go. "Angola" sounds like the kind of place you'd want to do a Tale of Two Hashes challenge for. Granted, it might take a while to answer... --January First-of-May (talk) 00:35, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- I had to pop over to the TOTH achievement page to confirm I never did a challenge for Angola before. It might be answered quicker than you think...The Town of Angola is split between the Buffalo, New York and Dunkirk, New York graticules so I would probably end up answering the challenge myself most likely. :P I'm actually planning to challenge for Versailles with this Expedition. I can challenge for Angola next time it lands over that way. Pedalpusher (talk) 00:55, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- I agree, Versailles is a better one than Angola - way more options. I was mostly wondering if anyone would be crazy enough to attempt a geohash in the African country :-)
To be honest, as far as I'm concerned, answering with the same place, just on the other side of a graticule border, probably counts as cheating. Had anyone actually done that before, aside from the Milky Way joke? --January First-of-May (talk) 01:39, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
