It was 15:30 on a Thursday and all was well. As usual, I decided to check the hashes for the day after. Nothing good for the Friday, but I suddenly noticed that the Thursday hashes fell in a good region for the 51 3 graticule to be possible. So I checked 51 3 for once. And there it was. A hash in Middelburg, reachable and well. But I still had to work….. and I had other things to do that evening, right? Right? So I told my co-workers that I would be leaving early. And I told the people that I should have been meeting in the evening that something more important was happening.

By the time I reached Middelburg, it was dark outside. The train station was right outside of the city, but I wouldn’t be going into the city. The hash was right on the other side of the station, into nowhere land.  It was a cold and wet evening as well, so I once again got to wonder while walking in the dark whether doing these night time hashes in unknown towns is a good idea in general. At one point, I had to cross a street and there was no way for pedestrians to safely cross. Even the tunnel under the street was not a good connection.

The hash was right on the edge of town, on a strip of land outside of a sub-urb. Nothing of interest, and I still wonder why no-one called the police on the man walking in the grass next to the road waving around his phone frantically.

After reaching the hash, I still had to eat, so I want to the McDonalds. This is only notable because the ticket had two meme numbers. I went back to the train station afterwards and traveled home. In the end, I was home after midnight, which was not my plan when I left home in the morning. Happy to finally do a hash in this graticule, and in Zeeland.

I ran to the train to Middelburg. It’s not a great connection by any means, having to go through Rotterdam and finally changing again in Roosendaal.
