Location

Nice spot on the South Downs near South Harting

Participants

Macronencer and probably drag-along friend, Nodders (Lyndon).

Plans

Won't be there at 4pm, as Nodders is visiting for the weekend and I'm expecting him at four. We plan to drive out there ASAP and do the hash, then hie us to a pub nearby for a spot of eatings. Should be a good practice run for the next day's piratical activities!

Expedition

Nodders was detained a while due to car trouble, so we left a little late! We knew we would be walking back to the car in the dark, but as there were forestry paths almost all the way to the co-ordinates, we decided to grab a torch and go for it! It was pretty steep most of the way up, and good exercise. On the way we startled a deer and it fled into the trees to our right, which was awesome. The atmosphere was great - very still and quiet. The location itself had looked easy to reach on the satellite image, but of course trees can grow in the time between those images and the present date!! We had to duck through a bit of undergrowth, but we finally made it, just as it got almost too dark to see. The hash point was right next to a large tree, so we took some photos and left fairly quickly without leaving a marker as we wanted to get back to the car.

Our successful madness over, we adjourned to the Ship Inn in South Harting, where we were greeted by friendly staff and locals and given some very fine food and ales. After that we returned to my flat and watched TWO movies on DVD (Razor Blade Smile and Mirrormask - a nice contrast!) while drinking more beer - hence the delayed write-up of this expedition! I'm feeling OK now. :)
