Geohashers
The Plan
Again, what luck to have an easily reached hash on Geohashing Day! This is near a strip mall with a Walmart Supercenter over by Jacksonville International Airport. The plan is to get there somewhere between 5:30 and 6:30, depending on things like traffic and when I actually get to leave. Heading on I-95N to get there, which is the main unsure crapshoot - I know I-95 south is generally packed at rush hour, but I don't know how bad north is going to be.
Later, I learned that as long as I pass my usual work exit by 5:00, I should make it by 5:20 or so; if not, it's pretty touch and go until the rush hour traffic mostly gets on I-10.
The Adventure
I left work a bit early around quarter after 4 to pick up Erica, then headed off to I-95N. The advice of my coworker was key, as we barely hit any traffic at all until we hit the Fuller Warren Bridge, which has the distinction of crossing the St. John's River and connecting two major highways, I-95 and I-10. Erica got some good pictures of the city proper, and on the way we discussed things like Cracker Barrel, the restaurant right next to the geohash, and what a PR disaster it would be if they attempted racial diversity in their name. Hey, this trip was short and easy, I've got to be interesting somewhere.
The hash itself was right next to some fountains right outside a parking lot inside River City Marketplace, so getting there was pretty easy. We parked the car, got out, and... we were there. Literally. Turns out it was right outside the car door. I had to laugh when Geohashing Day gives the Ace of Spades, arguably the best card ever. Happy Geohashing Day!
After that, we stood around for a bit and then got a bite to eat at Chili's, because I can't stand Cracker Barrel.
