Being a holiday, but not a DOW holiday, I checked the coordinates later than normal, but saw that they were definitely reachable and close to the city(Buffalo). I was planning on going downtown to check out the Buffalo Slow Roll which is a Monday bike ride around the city that goes really slow, so everyone can join. I figured I could make a stop at the hash-point before heading over to the start of the ride at a newish brewery(Big Ditch).
I knew the hash was next to the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery but I wasn't sure what the property was next to it. I was pretty sure it was another cemetery, and I didn't see any fence separating the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery from the hash on the satellite view so I drove there first to check things out. When I arrived, I pulled into the second pull-off of the cemetery road and saw I could easily walk to the hash with no obstructions. Getting to the point, I had to wander slightly to get a 0.00 reading, but finally got it. After getting my pictures, I drove to the next parking lot to find out exactly what the property was. It was the Pine Lawn Cemetery, but it looks like they do a lot of cremations so at least in the area of the hash, there are no headstones. No one won a coffin-potato award today.
Getting a picture of the sign out front, I headed downtown for the ride. It was pretty cool and there were 934 riders for this ride. It was a beautiful and warm day for October so they expected a lot of people. There were times where we were just standing around waiting to move, but we completed our ride to the city limits and back in a little over an hour(about 8 miles). We then hung out at Big Ditch(referencing the Erie Canal which when first conceived to connect Buffalo to New York City, was considered by some to be folly and nicknamed The Big Ditch) and had a beer.
Lastly, before heading home, I stopped at my grandparent's to drop off some cabbage soup that we made WAY too much of. It was nice to spend some time with them.
