My navigation "pigeon" had done a 180 degree flip and the first footpath was in almost exactly the wrong direction. The GPSr soon showed the error. Now heading south, there was a field of the dreaded rapeseed. The footpath had been used and it was just about possible to penetrate the shoulder high, intertwined crop. About 20 metres from the point I headed west for about 10 metres. This was much harder. 9 metres from the zero point I decided to call it "reached" to minimise crop trampling. Oddly the ease of penetration seemed to be directional. The rapeseed let me in but seemed determined to prevent my exit. Whoever had previously used the path must have headed south, disentangling the plants. Heading north on my return, the plants re-tangled. Progress was slow and sweaty.

Expedition
