+ | : Wow, I haven't touched this thing in ages. Anyways, I think that's happening in the [http://irc.peeron.com/xkcd/map/map.html map.html] script, not in the template code. [[User:Duskwolf|Duskwolf]] 04:17, 7 October 2008 (UTC) |

Graticule without surroundings
Hey - is it possible to create a template like the {{graticule}} one that will allow floating the map in a specific page right, without it messing up the rest of the page? 2008-05-21 37 -121 Zigdon 02:19, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
[[Category:Meetup in {{{lat}}} {{{lon}}}| ]]
- Done. Just use {{graticule}} with the parameter maponly=1, like so:
{{graticule | map=<map lat="51" lon="0" /> | maponly=1}}
Square Brackets
I just removed the square brackets that you put back in - I have no interest in a revert war, so I won't do it again until we can figure out what's going on - I think a lot of graticule pages have been built in the last little while, and this way is better, because of the additional flexibility. For instance, see Ulsteinvik, Norway - I wouldn't be able to add the Norwegian Sea there, otherwise. Can I ask what your reasons are for the other direction? AshleyMorton 21:31, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hm. If it's the case that most pages are using brackets now, then I don't see much of a problem with it. My main concern was simply that the pages I checked didn't have brackets, so they ended up unlinked. The original reason I didn't use brackets was simply that I was going for the simplest possible usage - adding a few brackets isn't hard, but it's easy to forget.
- Eventually, though, I'd like to do away with the explicit surrounds entirely. I'm not exactly sure how I'd organize the data, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be particularly difficult to put together some sort of index such that the template can generate links and names automatically. Northern Graticules Truncated
As graticules get skinnier towards the north (and presumably the south) the template displays them at a larger and larger scale, until approaching the Arctic circle the graticules displayed become truncated at the top and bottom. See Orkanger, Norway for an example. --User:Robyn didn't sign his/her message
