Plans
This adventure required very minor planning. Since it was right in the middle of an interstate highway, all I needed was to plan the route to pass overtop of it. Some minor modifications made sure the route didn't cross itself, and then: ready to go!
Expedition
I've nuanced before in a couple of different settings that my graticule has me a little disillusioned because of its lack of good geohashing locations. Since starting my geohashing kick about 5 months ago, I've averaged one good, accessible location about every 30 days. So it's natural that when they come along, I like to take full advantage. What an opportunity, then, when there's a spot twenty minutes from my house and I don't even have to get out of the car. To boot, two new achievements, and all this right on the heels of another fantastic hashpoint. But, boy, was this a bad day for a good spot. I had to leave for a multiple-day business trip to Milwaukee the next day, and I hadn't begun planning or packing for that. On top of that, my wife and I had tickets to see "Rain: The Beatles Experience" at Peoria's civic center that evening, which cut about 3 or 4 hours out of our evening. And I did have to work that day, so I wasn't able to get home until after 4:00. And yet, despite not really having time to do so, we hopped in the car and visited the hashpoint anyway.
With wife sitting shotgun, as usual, we took off on the planned route, and basically were able to just sit back and drive for three quarters of an hour round trip. We took the dog along because he likes rides and I thought it would be keen to have a four-legged geohashing partner this time.
This being the second geohash I've done since getting a GPS, I wanted to see if I could manage the track log function, which is great because I also wanted to claim the Tron Achievement. You can see the link to said track log in that achievement's ribbon. I was happy to find that the resolution on the GPS was accurate enough to tell the difference between the northbound and soundbound lanes of I-155, and so you'll see that while most of my route is on the same road system, it never actually touches because of the median separation of the lanes. Woo!
