Expedition

This is the final May hashpoint in 52, 1. The Sunday point is in the sea and no one is likely to get there. It has been an interesting month with all 21 land geohashes attempted (one was in a lake and needed a boat). 18 of the points were reached. This is statistically lucky because only 57% of the Norwich graticule is on dry land. In an average month there would be 17 land hashpoints and 15 reachable. One day I might do an analysis to see just how lucky the month has been.

The hashpoint today was in a field of recently germinated sweet corn. On Google Earth, the field was large. In real life, it had been sliced in two for new houses and there were a few minutes of geoangst when it was not clear whether the destination was on the accessible side of the fence. This was a "Hairy Arse" fence as used by builders and the name reflects the stereotypical image of a crouching builder with clothing that just fails to cover the essentials. Luckily the hashpoint was 20 meters on the accessible side. Urban building sites often have security and dogs so a break-in was out of the question. It was possible to follow the field perimeter until the last few paces. The field backed onto gardens and security lights came on but no dogs barked so perhaps my progress went unnoticed. Heavy rain or fog would have been advantageous but tonight there was bright still moonlight.
