First Geohash!

Long time lurker, but finally found a close enough geohash in a day I had some spare time. It wasn't too far away, so I was able to reach it by bike and it was just in the middle of a path in an easy area, so I decided to try and get the no batteries achievement. I brought my phone with me, but didn't use it till the end to take some pictures and check that I was really there with the GPS.

It's also the first time someone goes geohashing on this graticule, so it seems I'm gonna be lonely around here.

Location

The geohash was in a path near Villatoro, just about two or three km north of Burgos. This path seemed to be used to access a shooting range that no longer exists as the only evidence I could find of its existence was an old signal post. Nearby there were also two really big rounded buildings which are probably water reservoirs, but I didn't check.

Expedition

I left home with my bike and my printed map at about 18:00 and reached the geohash at around 19:15 (local time). It was close to the city, but in an area I hadn't cycled through previously, so I had checked OpenStreetMap thoroughly. However, the path I intended to follow wasn't there or maybe it was covered in vegetation, so I had to improvise and go down a small really steep way. This time it was downhill and I managed to stay on my bike, but I was sure the other way wasn't going to be so easy. Finally, I arrived at the geohash without any other problem, took some pictures, checked the location with my phone, eat a little bit and went back home. I tried to avoid the steep path, but there's a railway I had to cross and the only path I knew that crossed it left me with two options: climbing it up or arriving at a semi-highway with lots of traffic, which I wanted to avoid, so I chose the first one.

Insightful trivia

  • I cycled over dog poop, twice.
  • I saw a kind of lizard that wasn't the most typical ones around here, but it fled before I could take a better look at it.
  • A rabbit crossed the road just in front of me.
