I entertained a fantasy in which I would drive by the hashpoint, there would be no traffic, and I'd be able to stop and figure out if I was close enough.

What actually happened was I wandered by in the middle of the day on my way to work. There was a fair bit of traffic and I couldn't get over to the right edge of the road. I continued on to work and forgot to make another attempt on my way home.
