Expedition

I had been waiting to get a Frozen Geohash or Snowman Geohash for two winters, but the weather conditions had never been right when the coordinates were reachable. But after it had snowed for a whole day and I saw that there was a hash nearby on the following, I had to get it. The problem was that I didn't want to cycle 28 km in the slippery cold and the bus schedule is very sparse in the small villages. So I checked and wrote down all possible bus arrival and departure times from different starting points, and decided to go in the late afternoon so that I had 32 minutes there, discarding my earlier plan of getting the fastest connection but having less than two minutes at the hashpoint.

At 3:30 pm, I cycled to my local train station and took the bus to Kisdorf, where it didn't stop at my stop and I had get off a stop later and run a little to get to different bus stop in time. I got off the next bus at Stuvenborn shortly after sunset and, because I had plenty of time, walked 700 m to the main road to avoid having to climb over a fence and jump a creek on the field itself. From there, I walked 50 m across a fenced paddock, onto the field and 200 m across the white snow-laden ground. I took photos and then started to build the snowman (my first in at least seven years), which went surprisingly well even though the snow was already beginning to melt. It picked up a lot of earth from the ground and thus became quite dirty. I gave him my winter cap, socks, a large pencil for a nose and large chocolate coins as eyes, mouth, and buttons, which were quite hard to place as they would easily fall off, I had to attach extra snow on the neck to make them stick.

When I was done after 10 minutes, I photographed it, then took off the accessiores and went back, having to take the short route across the ditch because I'd wasted so much time by walking around the field (it was already pretty dark). I had to climb over a fence grown over by a lot of brambles, but had to wait at the bus stop because my bus was late. On the second and most of the first bus ride, I was the only passenger. I rode it to Kaltenkirchen, where I walked to the train station and took the A1 back to my bike, then cycled home. Unfortunately, even though I checked multiple times, the temperature remained at 1°C throughout, so I'll have to wait for my Frozen Geohash.
