Expedition

From Hannover, I took the train via Stuttgart and Ulm to Sigmaringen. My train arrived five minutes late, which is exactly the time I had to get on the next train. When the train arrived, I could see the other train was still at the station, but when I arrived at the platform literally less than a minute later, it was gone.

That was unfortunate - I later learned from a fellow passenger who missed their train that the HzL has a strict policy to leave stations on time, even if it means that passengers arriving from other trains get left behind. Oh well, the next one is going to come in an hour, right? Wait what, two hours, seriously? After not finding any place to rent a bike or an e-scooter, I seriously considered walking (it is only a twelve-minute train ride!), but it would have taken more than the two hour wait for the next train.

So I made the best out of it by exploring Sigmaringen a bit. What I knew about the town was that it was the capital of what formerly was the southernmost Prussian exclave, and as such was not part of Baden nor Württemberg but is part of Baden-Württemberg today. I did not know about the castle, which is apparently still owned by the emperor's descendants. Right next to the castle flows the Danube, and of course there lots of people taking pictures of the castle, myself included. The view from the ground was pretty great, but it is even better after climbing up a nearby hill. I ate my lunch there and returned to the station afterwards.

Finally, I boarded the train to Storzingen. I was not thrilled when it left the station several minutes late after learning about their "strict" punctuality policy earlier. But it did arrive eventually. Now it was walking time! There were forested hills on both sides of the street. As I got closer to the coordinates, it was time to leave the main street and enter the forest path. There as not much of a path, and I foolishly wore shorts, so it was a bit of a fight. When I emerged from the forest, there was only a little bit left to go. The coordinates were located inside of a different mini forest, it was just a few meters wide and long but quite dense nonetheless.

After locating the coordinates, I had enough of forests and walked down the hill through a mowed meadow, that was a lot easier. There was a ski lift, which looked a bit weird in summer. Then, I left for 2022-08-14 49 6 in Saarbrücken.
