After checking out of base camp yesterday, we followed the exact same route of yesterday's expedition for a half hour or so before ducking off of Highway 7 into the backroads. Fairfax County is one of the wealthiest parts of the country, and this was definitely a neighborhood of very large houses on very large lots and a general air of success and privilege.
The hashpoint was just off the road at the edge of a driveway. We were in a bit of luck to find a wide spot nearby where we could park the car briefly so that we could shamble over and do the usual thing. A large dog began running towards us! ...but half-heartedly, and he stopped when his human companion told him to chill.
After that, we continued driving through the neighborhood, and then looked for roads heading generally south and west, and one thing led to another and eventually we got to Charleston, West Virginia.
