Expedition

Arriving at Osnabrück Central after visiting 2023-10-31 51 15, I decided to go on another expedition, took the train to Osnabrück-Sutthausen, and cycled the rest of the distance to Holzhausen.

The coordinates were on a beach volleyball court. The sand was soaking wet, it had been raining for hours. Performing the Dance™, I got a good reading with 1.04m of distance, but tried to get a better one under 1m.

That's when I stepped into a sandy, watery hole. I sunk my entire foot and my leg halfway to my knee in the sand, and while trying to get out, sunk the other foot as well. Was this the quicksand I had been worried about during my childhood? Apparently not, since I managed to get out, but now my shoes were wet and sandy. I decided that 1.04m was good enough afterall, and took the pictures.

I wanted to continue cycling east, but the path that was supposed to be there stopped after a ahort while. Checking on my navigation, it turned out that I was not on the path I was supposed to be. The path that was supposed to go east was fenced off though.

Suddenly, I noticed the southern sky was glowing red. To make sure I was not hallucinating, I took a picture. It was long after sundown. Was this a forest fire? But I did not smell anything and the glow did not appear to be moving like you would expect flames to move. Still, feeling weirdly uneasy, I took the path to the west to get out of there. The glow disappeared soon afterwards while I cycled back home.

This was my fourty-third and final expedition in this month.
