Expedition

If not for my currently active geohashing streak, I probably would not have gone for it: I am unsure if it will be accessible, and it's not the easiest to get to. But with the streak active, and the only other option for today in 50,9, which would have been quite far, I go and try.

I take the same train as yesterday but change trains in Nuremberg to get to Kirchenlaibach. This train Nuremberg - Kirchenlaibach does pass through Hersbruck, but it does not stop, so I need to switch in Nuremberg. While these disel-powered trains are quite fast, I don't find them particularly nice to ride on and they tend to give my slight motion sickness. I'm happy when I arrive in Kirchenlaibach and am able to leave the train, approximately an hour after leaving Nuremberg.

I take a small regional train to my final train stop for today, Stockau, and start walking to the hash. I arrive at the bridge over the Ölschnitz, 40 meters south of the hash, without issue. From there I follow - according Openstreetmap, unaware of the differences between OSM and google maps at that point - east of the river towards the hash.

But I seem to be unable to get a good reading. I'm always a few meters off. I take out my compass to figure out in which direction I need to go - and it's pointing towards the river. Not great. Will my hash be in the river?

I walk back down to the bridge and try on the other side. It's a bit harder to get to the area on that side because the soil is still very wet - probably flooded one or two days ago. But I find a patch close to the river that is able to support my weight.

On this side, the readings are better. The hash is right on the bank of the river, so I get as close as possible and successfully reach it. Another successful expedition.
