The Manchester graticule is at latitude 53, longitude -2. It contains, in no particular order:

Manchester, Chester, Liverpool, St Helens, Preston, Bolton, Blackburn, Stockport, Macclesfield, Wigan as well as numerous other built up areas, including the greater parts of the Stoke-on-Trent and Wrexham areas. Water geohashes are rare, but the graticule does contain the estuaries of the Mersey and Ribble rivers, as well as a small part of Morecambe Bay. Anyone wishing to go exploring these risky bodies of waters should seek local expert safety advice. That said, there is the Leeds-Liverpool canal, which is reasonably safe.

2012

  • 2012-01-03 53 -2: In the middle of Preston, just down the hill from the station ... surely someone can get there today. I've got photos taken yesterday for the G+LeapYearDayProject with EXIF lat/long putting me there, but unfortunately I was on my way to catch a train at the time, so can't head back today. Now trying for a Puppetmaster, in the hope that'll let me claim Deja Vu as well. -- Angel 07:31, 1 March 2012 (EST)

2011

  • Everyone is sleeping but Sourcerer visits several times per year to see good friends who like beer and curry. Sooner or later there will be a reachable point, perhaps with drag-along and pub/curry geohash potential.
  • 2011-07-27 53 -2: Planned by Monty as the first part of a coast-to-coast triplet. Reached (though not fully photographed), report still pending. (map).

2009

  • Everyone slept for a year.
