Talk:Townsville, Australia

From Geohashing
Revision as of 03:32, 29 August 2009 by imported>Mattyk (neatned up past-months bit)
Allow me to propose a format for this page:
Section 1
Stuff about meet-ups and locations.
Add a new sub-section for each date about which you wish to comment.
I'll try and keep it clean, by moving old months to a sub-pages.
Section 2
...I haven't worked out yet what should go here. Let's leave it open.

Townsville
Map
An adventure; 200m from a dirt road which is itself about a click from the main Woodstock-Giru road. Possibly accessible, depending on whether it's a farm, research centre, or other miscellaneous (fenced) location.
Rejoice! A spot that doesn't require a helicopter! I'm going to "attempt" this, with both girls, without a GPS unit, heading out around 9:30-10:00am. I'll post photos, even if/when we don't get there. Should I happen to meet up with someone there, we shall have a tentative party. Matty 22:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Next time, if you're pretty sure someone is going, you can set up this page 2009-08-29_-19_146 and let people know about your plans. We have a robot that will update the main page to announce your trip. Jiml 23:21, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Cool. Traditionally we set up the page after the fact. Been a while since we've had an attemptable point in our graticule. For the record: if I didn't have the girls, I may have done it. As it was, too many locked gates. Matty 02:25, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Made sense in the past. The trick is now that APerfectBot is happily scanning all the expedition reports and updating the current events page, so people will know about expeditions that are happening, perhaps even in their area. Jiml 05:50, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Twistie. Do I know you? Matty

Hey, I dunno. I'm a first year IT student at JCU. I have a feeling I have heard your name before but I'm just not sure. -- Twistie

Page Structure

I think it's good having the Saturday map links on the main page, and a brief description for the current/past ones. However, as Simon suggested, I'm quite happy for ephemeral discussions (about attempting hashes and stuff) to live here on the discussion page. If anyone else wants to update the Current Meetup Location section early on Saturdays, you're most welcome. Also, when we start running out of upcoming Saturdays, feel free to chuck in another months' worth of links. Matty
