I was truly amazed by your 2008-09-01 49 -124 expedition. It should be highlighted in some way for all geohashers to see. I'm also from BC, the interior. The coincidences just start there: I also geohash with a Garmin Explorist 500, Nalgene water bottles, and MEC gear from head to toe. You even stole my awesome beard. I did ocean kayaking this summer for the first time, so I can relate with you on that bit. I hope to be in the lower mainland for this Saturday's meetup, so who knows. Sweet!, lets say 0900 hours. I know that's a bit early, but what else do we have to do on a Sunday morning? Since the satellite images or pretty old, and the site looks like a construction zone, as a back up location we can meet at the intersection of Dollarton Hwy and Forester St (say, on the south east corner). I'm going to be wearing my "Science" shirt, and I'll have a black roadish bike with me too. Feel free to yell out "Hey Pi Guy!" at the top of your lungs from across the street. See you all tomorrow! $100 Wal-Mart boat? Don't be silly. If I wanted to get to a hash in the middle of the lake I'd buy a $5 Wal-Mart air mattress. Or maybe just swim. Today the hash is sitting there, in the middle of a road just waiting for me to rent a car. But I am strong. I will not turn to the dark side of geohashing. Bicycles hashes

I see. I had a little break, and the weather kinda sucks here now, but on wednesday i´ll hash, and that will be at least 40km, if the weather isn't too bad I'll make it 50-60 even. The weekend doesn't look to good here either, so I guess your 170km will be the longest for a while (assuming no one else shows up to compete). Re: Muddy bike. That's exactly what I was thinking. "Ha, I'll bet a WalMart bike never worked so hard!" GPS tracklogs

I use http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=googleearth to convert my .gdb (Garmin log)files into something google will display(kml, kmz). Should also work for .gpx files. --Arvid 03:13, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

My standard equipment

My bike bag always contains: 1 spare outer tyre, 1 spare inner tyre (both new). 1 fixed inner tyre. A pump. Stuff to fix a flat tyre. And some toolkit, including a chain rivet extractor. The spare outer tire is pretty impressive. I have a small chunk out of an old outer tire to use as a boot if the sidewall of an existing one gets badly slashed, but I don't carry a whole spare. I used to carry spare spokes, a spoke wrench, a chain breaker and links, and all kinds of wonderful stuff, but then I used to ride 200 km a day quite regularly, and consider 100 km to be an easy rest day. Maybe geohashing will get me back into fighting shape. -Robyn 15:27, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

I never understood the spare spokes. I hear it more often, but I cycled over 8000km now on my recumbent, and I never had a spoke broken. I use quite sensitive tires, if something destroys the anti-puncture layer, or gets annoyingly stuck in there, I just use the spare tire. I stopped carrying extra chain links, I can just remove a couple. I just have to think about not using some extreme gears. But a recumbent chain consists of three normal ones, so that might be of influence here. About the tires: I use foldable tires, of course. More expensive, but a lot easier to put in a bag. Pretty standard stuff, I have Schwalbe Marathon Racers now. Size 40-559 or 26x1.50. 26 inch is for mountainbikes here though. Normal bikes here all have 28 inch wheels. Recumbents in general just use standard tires. Only when you have a trike or anything else on more than 2 wheels, you might want to consider special tires, because of the sideway-forces. Recumbents often have 20" front and 26" rear though. But I think that's annoying spare-tire-wise.--Arvid 17:41, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
