About

The Lappeenranta graticule is at latitude 61, longitude 28.

In this graticule it becomes most obvious why Finland is sometimes referred as "the country of thousands lakes". It includes Saimaa - the largest lake in Finland. Together with adjacent lakes is forms the Greater Saimaa water system that extends the neighbouring graticules in the north and west. The lakes have many islands forming a mosaic of water and forest. A hashpoint may be tricky to reach, but the scenery is likely to be breath-taking. In addition to wilderness, towns Savonlinna, Joutseno, Imatra and Lappeenranta are in the graticule. A small piece of it falls on the Russian side of the border.
