In a meadow surrounded by a Danube backwater loop, near Öberau, a few kilometers northwest of Straubing.

Tomcat found his electric power-assisted bike not working, just as they were about to leave. After first thinking about giving up on the trip, he ended up using an older bike that was less comfortable, but mostly functional. We met at 10:00 next to the Danube near my home and with only minor breaks (including one geocache) cycled to the hash following the signposted Danube cycleway, along the northern edge of the riverbank.

Arriving at 13:30, we found the hash to be next to a small pond full of reeds. Having taken a panorama and the usual photos at the exact coordinates, we stood next to the pond for a bit and I managed to take a few good pictures of one of the frogs in it. As we were getting hungry, we didn't stay longer than necessary and cycled on to Straubing, where met with a friend of theirs for a rather late Bavarian lunch, then went to look for a new geocache in town, sat down for ice cream in a cafe, and then hurried to the station to catch the train back to Regensburg at 17:23. We had originally intended to cycle back as well - using an unknown, possibly nicer southern route - but decided against it because Tomcat was more exhausted than he would have been on his usual, better bicycle.

Anyway - at about 70 kilometers in flat terrain, this was a nicely feasible sunday trip in cool, but mostly sunny weather.
