Well, here they are, sort of. I left my previous activity in Ballard at 1pm into a surprisingly stiff south breeze coming up in advance of the humble storm system that was supposed to bring Seattle its first rain in 40-some days late that evening. It was the first overcast day I could remember around here for quite some time, and it was actually rather pleasant after the recent summer heat. The only trouble was that it drizzled on me ahead of schedule, somewhere around Kent or Auburn. Fortunately this didn't last long. In any case, I got to the neighborhood at 5:35, despite the wind, a construction detour, and a fast-food break en route. I suppose I owe this to the very flat, straight, wide-open Interurban Trail that I cycled down for a large part of the way. I don't know why more people don't use it.
As I came south up Canyon Rd. approaching 96th (the hashroad) I looked up to my right, where I thought the hashpoint was, and saw not an apartment complex, but some kind of collection of small shacks. Had I mistakenly interpreted the satellite picture again? What was this exactly? Dread quickly took hold. But then 96th didn't materialize, and I realized I was too far north still. I felt tentatively relieved, and then decidedly relieved once I intercepted the real 96th, turned the corner, and was confronted with the sign for the apartments. I stopped to ready the GPS, rolled into their parking lot, and...

Expedition continued
Back at my bike, I checked the time and found I had 14 minutes to make it back to downtown Puyallup for the bus back, which comes every hour. This was 4? 5? miles away, and very downhill, so it would be close. (Back at home Google says 4.6 mi / 7.4 km.) I had another option a little farther in the opposite direction, with plenty of time, but decided to be stupid and race to Puyallup. Unfortunately, it wasn't close at all - I took 19 minutes. So I spent my traditional 55 minutes in downtown Puyallup, which surprisingly passed very quickly. Soon enough the bus arrived and transported me back to my normal life.
