Expedition

GeorgDerReisende

I left home at 10:30 and with a bus and three trains I traveled to Zella-Mehlis. I arrived there at 14:19. I found out, that the hash was on platform 5. But it was an easy hash and I wanted to go to the hash at hash o'clock, so I tried to leave the place. But I wanted to take a first photo. But a man walked into the direction of the hash and he made some strange gestures. And I thought, this behaviour looks like a dancing geohasher. And I walked to the hash and I met Danatar. After the meetup I made a walk to Zella-Mehlis and I walked back to the train station. At hash o'clock I waited again at the hash. But nobody else arrived. At 16:05 I took the train and traveled home.

I was on my way from Dresden to Würzburg for a round birthday party and as usual I looked up possible hashpoints along the way. When I noticed this one directly at the Zella-Mehlis train station I decided to visit it. This meant using the route along the A4/A71 via Jena and Suhl, which is a bit longer than my usual route along the A72 via Hof. In order to not drive too many additional kilometers I decided to trade time for distance and left the A4 at the Apolda exit. From there I drove along country roads through Bad Berka, Kranichfeld and Stadtilm to reach the A71 again at Ilmenau. There was just the problem of a few road blocks that forced me to make a few detours, nullifying most of the shortcut. A while later I left the A71 again at the Oberhof exit, driving through the northern part of Zella-Mehlis until I reached the train station which had a very convenient and free of charge parking lot.

When I got out of the car, a train arrived. Among the people getting off I noticed somebody with a large white beard. I immediately thought of GeorgDerReisende but rejected that possibility because it was much too early for hash o'clock. I used the tunnel to platform 5 and went to the end of the platform. The GPS at first showed the spot one meter beyond the guardrail but the spot moved around a bit until I could finally find it on the platform. While taking pictures I noticed the white-bearded guy from before coming to the same platform and walking towards me. It was indeed GeorgDerReisende! Hooray! Because we met, it counts as a Saturday meetup even though it wasn't 4 pm. We talked a bit, then we parted ways again, with me driving to the Autobahn and onward to Würzburg.
