With my Consecutive Streak at 4, I've got a chance to get a Personal Best Streak of 5 today! It was a very early morning as I got up at 05:00 to meet my father at land he owns in Bliss which is about 30 minutes South of the hash. I made sure I had my headlamp and a small flashlight in case I got there after dark. There were a lot of deer moving around in the morning and I got to watch a couple Pileated Woodpeckers fly around and stab a few tree trunks. I even had a pair of very young deer walk within about 10 meters of me around 15:25. I stayed very still and being downwind of them, they never registered I was there. I considered trying to pull out my phone to take a picture, but I didn't want to spook them so just watched them walk through.
We decided to call it a day a little after 16:00 and was hoping to get to the hash with some light left, but realized I dropped my seat pad on the way out and had to go back in for it burning precious daylight minutes. It worked out though because on the drive over to the hash, I got to see the Moonrise over the Wyoming (county) hills. Bad phone picture though so it kinda looks like the sun. I just followed my phone GPS to the hash area and I was slightly familiar with it as I had done another hash around the corner in another field Back when Simon the dog was still around.
Parking near the driveway to the hash-field, I got my headlamp but didn't grab my orange vest as it was dark enough that you really couldn't see colors well and I had the headlamp anyway identifying myself as a human. This area allows hunting in certain fields, but according to the map I looked at yesterday, this field was off limits (and it was after hunting hours too). There were still plenty of hunters around as they were getting back to their cars and one group turned around as I walked by. One said hi and I replied 'hey' and kept walking. He looked a little different (not wearing orange), but I figured he took his suit off and was talking to the fellow hunters about what they all saw out there.
It was no trouble getting to the hash, following my GPS and with my multiple layers of pants, I completely disregarded the little raptors as they tried to grab me. It was a simple GPS dance and with a couple pictures, I've secured my new Consecutive Record of 5!
Getting back to the car, I called J to let her know I was on my way home, and as I started driving, realized the car parked across the road was a DEC officer (Department of Environmental Conservation for New York State). He's the one that greeted me as I walked in, but we didn't interact other than that. I'm sure he was checking hunting licences and insuring firearms were unloaded, so does that count as a Police Geohash? All the ribbon says is an 'encounter' so I think it does: "Eventually there will be a time where a Geohasher will encounter an officer of the law."
I will claim this (even though I didn't get a picture, but it was also really dark and wouldn't have come out anyway), so let me know in the discussion if you think this is incorrect.
Also to note, here ends my Consecutive Streak. There may have been an opportunity in Canada in the Toronto Graticule on Sunday, but with no Streetview and other plans later in the day, I decided to not worry about it.
