14th August Geohash

Hey, what time are you planning on being at today's hash (if you're still going to do it)? -- Shady 00:19, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Active Graticule

Thanks for the clean-up. Frighteningly I have NO MEMORY of adding Category:Active Graticules to anything and no motive for doing so. I hope I didn't do many. -Robyn 03:59, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Distance Travelled

How are you calculating the distance travelled to each hash? --Shady 04:00, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

I've been using Google Maps, and adjusting my route to where I actually drove (ie via yours and Ramos' yesterday). And then adding on the distance walked from the car where appropriate... --CJ 07:03, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Toukley

I didn't end up going. The trains left at 2-hour intervals for a 2-hour journey, and it was a 9km walk from the train station. it would have taken over 8 hours, not including getting to Central Station. It wouldn't have been worth it. --rikkyc 13:44, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

August 31

mate, i can't make that in time. there's no way i can get there in two hours. --rikkyc 01:44, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

New Geohasher

Thanks for the welcome! I'm hoping to make it to the next Sunday meet within my reach. I'm on the #geohashing channel on Foonetic IRC if you want to chat. --TerrorBite 07:18, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

I really have no idea how to work this page. I've lost my contents page, and I can't make my photo small enough to put it up... I spent less time getting to the hash than I have trying to log it... oh dear... --Kate 01:13, 6 September 2008 (Sydney time)- oh and I can't work out how to convert to UTC either... I really should stop pretending that I'm computery... Anyway, thanks for yesterday!

Thanks, too

For adding the categories. I'm still a bit clueless. -- Kriechstrom 18:41, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

No worries! Happy to help out a fellow geohasher where needed... --CJ 00:12, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Active Geohashers

Check out what I wrote on the Sydney talk page... --rikkyc 05:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

October 2

dude, i'm all for the october 2 geohash. what time are you planning on going? --rikkyc 14:05, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

sweet. 3:30 sounds good. i'll try to make it on time, but i won't be early. --rikkyc 00:02, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

i was there at 3:30, on the dot. i took some photos to prove it. what did you do when you got there? --rikkyc 11:53, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

i didn't end up actually going to the exact spot. it was when i was standing outside the construction site that i realized that i had no idea where the spot actually was (i was counting on you), and there was building going on so i didn't want to run around the whole site taking photos. i failed that geohash. --rikkyc 12:35, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Graticule Naming

Hello there, just thought I'd let you know that I'm currently working on the naming of all Australian graticules, and have SA, QLD, NSW, VIC and TAS tentitively mapped out. I'll leave the already named graticules as they are, though. What do you think, should I go ahead and make pages for them all as inactive graticules, or should I merely post the list somewhere for people's use if they wish?

Also, which spelling mistake? --UnwiseOwl 2:02, 8 October 2008 (CDST)

Yup, It's definitely bedtime. I'm thinking we should rename ones graticules that appear on maps, but not graticules that actually have a page already, mostly because I dislike stepping on people's toes. Well, I'll start with the SA grats tonight then...--UnwiseOwl 2:10, 8 October 2008 (CDST)
I'm busy graticule naming lately, too, because my company keeps moving me around and I feel I should make a graticule page for any graticule I geohash in, and name all of its neighbours. Some of my rules for naming graticules are on my Regional Gerohash page. You'll probably have the same problem as me in the GFA when there is absolutely NOTHING resembling human habitation in the whole graticule. I know I'm in trouble when the aviation chart has individual cabins marked on it. Oh and the list is available to everyone on the All Graticules page. I don't think you should make pages for graticules where no one has geohashed, unless it's a neighbour to your home grat and the red link is driving you crazy. Personally, I find generic graticule pages that have been created just for the sake of creating them kind of sad.-216.126.114.206 00:35, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I've used a seperate set of rules I devised, I would have used yours, Robyn, but I'd already started when I stumbled across it. I'll post them sometime soon... --UnwiseOwl 9/10/2008

We should gather up all our rules, resolve any contradictions, and put them somewhere useful. -Robyn 02:50, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Have fun moving, CJ. When you get back, I hope you'll be welcomed by the sweet smell of named graticules. Regards, Tom. --UnwiseOwl 9/10/2008

Seconded. We'll miss you and your awesome wiki skills. And don't forget, http://xkcd.com/466/ --joannac 03:20, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Welcome Back! -- UnwiseOwl 00:54, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Yay, you're back! *hugs* --joannac 01:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
:) Thanks guys...it's good to be back. Looks like I only missed one (maybe two) geohashes that I would have tried for... --CJ 10:44, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

October 8

Yo!
What time are you going to be at the hashpoint? --rikkyc 02:12, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

WE'RE ON TV!!!

3:31 http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=B3xvtyRlCo0 Go us! Glad to see you back. Hope the moving went well. It would suck bigtime if Tuesday's hash fell on your old house!!! Kate 11:03, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh my goodness! When you said We're on TV I thought you meant Geohashing as a sport...but you actually meant the two of us in our bright orange vests!!! Woo!!! --CJ 11:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Woo. That's the first time I've seen that piee. Good subtitles, whoever did it. But too bad they got the Restricted Area Geohash so wrong. It makes it sound like trespassing is the intent of the sport. -Robyn 01:20, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Missing Geohashing...

Hey CJ, I miss Geohashing and our random adventures together. I am going to Europe for 2 months on Friday, it would be nice to have another Sydney Geohash before I go... However I am going to take my GPS and perhaps I'll be able to find international hashes (perhaps even a Saturday one)! Hope you are having fun! Kate 13:26, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Alas, no Geohashing this week! I look forward to having another adventure in the New Year! If you email me your address, fingers crossed you'll get an international Hashcard! Kate 14:41, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Goood to have you back. -- UnwiseOwl 01:08, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

February 8

Fair enough, just next time try to tell me before I leave the house. I was at the end of Vernon St at 12:10 or so but the street doesn't actually continue like it says it does on Google Maps. The area that looks like trees is actually trees, no road past there. We wouldn't have been able to get to the hash from the meeting spot. Just so we don't have this problem again, my mobile number is 0406759968. --rikkyc 03:26, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

March 2

For the Wollongong geohash tomorrow, which direction are you coming from/and or going to afterwards? Maybe we can work a lift out. --rikkyc 23:19, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

that doesn't actually sound too suiting for me. what do you do for a living? what kind of job allows you to fit in all of this geohashing and makes you go to croydon and campbelltown? or are you a professional geohasher? --rikkyc 12:00, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I need an airoplane

Of the 8 graticule I was prepared to visit today, none of them are even remotely achievable. Unless you count a 3 hour drive, across rivers, down a dirt 'track'. I am sad. Good luck for Sydney. Knowing my luck, saturday's will land in my house... --Kate 20:16, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
