Expedition

Danatar

This is part one of a Triple Hash:

The plan for the day was to attend my brother's surprise birthday party in Bremen. Since 53 8 is quite a distance from Dresden, I took the day off. And as always when I have to go someplace, I checked for hashpoints on the way. I was positively surprised when I noticed that day's hashpoints being both in Dresden and in Bremen and I decided to do the Dresden one at midnight, before sleeping. On my bike I took a route that would allow me to use a tron route, starting towards the south from my dorm, then along one of the main streets. I crossed the Elbe at the Albert bridge which is closed to cars for repairs, but the pedestrian and bike lane is still open. Then I cycled through the Neustadt, which was full of people even at quarter to midnight. Seriously, where did they come from? Then I crossed the Alaun park, took a few more turns and was near the... uuh, dead end, NOOOOO! I carefully turned, driving as near to the houses on the other side of the street as possible in order to not get too near to my track. On the GPS track it is visible that I succeeded. Then I was near the hashpoint. I carefully went the last steps at midnight, only to see the correct coordinates displayed but "distance to goal" still at 20 meters. What? I checked the waypoint for errors, but I had entered it correctly. By that time the coordinates had wandered around a bit and I had to leave the tron route to chase after them. After the usual pictures (including part one of a marker) I wrote a birthday SMS to my brother ("will phone to congratulate properly in the evening"). Then I continued past the church, continuing as if the tron was still possible, as that was also the shortest route home. I cycled along Stauffenbergallee and across the Waldschlösschen bridge back to the dorm. And that's when I saw my bike for the last time, because by Monday morning when I wanted to go to 2014-08-04 50 13 it was stolen.
