Expedition

Was out camping with my girlfriend at Letchworth State Park for two nights to get a couple hikes in where J is participating in the Western NY Hiking Challenge. After a long day of hiking the day before, we had a relaxed morning where I had just enough signal to check the hashpoints when they were published. The hash looked to be in a field, but based on the location, I expected it to be posted.

However, since we were going hiking at Stony Brook State Park a bit to the South of the Hash, J was willing to swing by and see if it was posted. We would then head further North to check out No BS Brewing which was the only brewery open in the area. With our plan set, we drove out to Stony Brook for a very hilly but beautiful hike. We had to walk up the Rim trail to start, but on the way back, the Gorge Trail was open in the Southern direction (one way trail).

Getting back to the car, I used the HashDroid App to set the directions in my phone and we started on our way to the hash. Getting to the Rt 408 Exit, google said to get back on the 390 and go back south. Confused, I pulled over and sure enough, we missed the exit we should have taken. I was still sure the field would be posted, but J was willing to head back and check it out. She convinced me we should at least go see what's there so we headed back south. Driving by the Hashfield, the GPS said we were arriving and we should walk the rest of the way...google apparently doesn't know you can't just park on the thruway. Getting off at the correct exit, we made our way around the block and drove down the road toward the hash.

I noticed that the fields on the way down the road were not posted, so at that point I got a bit more hopeful. Plus, with the corn already harvested, we wouldn't be impeded by crops in the field either. We were able to find a place to pull off the road which just happened to be next to a driveway into the hash-field, no posted signs in sight. Making our way out into the field, we had a short GPS dance to locate the hash and get a couple pictures of the area. Success had, we made our way back to the car and headed to the Brewery for some refreshing beers.
