Expedition

There hadn't been a good Geohashing opportunity since November, so I was happy to see that this one was only an hour away by train & bus. I initially thought it was located in the parking area of the Lidl supermarket, but the following morning I discovered that it was actually just inside the supermarket as the building is slightly smaller on OSM than in actuality! In the early afternoon, I took public transport to Schenefeld and, when I arrived, saw that fortunately the hashpoint was (barely) in the entrance area that you have to walk through to get in and out of the supermarket, instead of in some closed-off storage room – that would make this my second geohash inside a supermarket after 2019-02-21 53 9. What luck! I think I'm the first to achieve that. Of the 4 geohashes in buildings I attempted, 2 were in supermarkets and 2 were inside service buildings (both unsuccessful), while zero were in private buildings. Private buildings are by far the majority of buildings in my area!

I stood myself just behind the bicycle rack at the window corner between the entrance area and the actual supermarket, where I was only about 0.5 m from the coordinates. There, I took my usual photos and screenshots, because it would look extremely weird if I did that while inside the entrance (there was also someone there to make sure everyone wore a mask), and I would hold up customers. Then I went inside (they initially wouldn't let me because I didn't have a shopping cart), but alas, they didn't seem to have any Slushies, not even as ice (as a matter of fact, I can't recall ever having seen Slushies in a German supermarket). Only later did I learn that I maybe could've just bought a smoothie (though you can't get them frozen). So I bought a pretzel roll instead and recorded a video of the ground while I walked out, deliberately pausing at the approximate hashpoint (I'm confident that I at least walked over it). Then I had to hurry to catch a bus to get me back to a train station and rode home.
