Location

A field near a power plant between Mevo Horon and Sha'ar HaGai. It is actually on the Green Line which was the border between Israel and Jordan from 1949-67. The border was drawn with a thick crayon so this location is on the crayon.

Participants

Plans

This was supposed to be perfect. It's Passover break so I'm taking the week off. The wife and son have traveled to the in-laws. The hash is about twelve kilometers from my house so it is perfect for a walk. It's in an agricultural area so there won't be any noise. The hash point is supposed to be outside of a power plant so it is hopefully not restricted. All I need to do is get out my amudanan.co.il application and follow while enjoying the scenery. I'll see how I feel about walking or hitchhiking home.

Expedition

I live in an area between the town of Lapid and the Modi'in 'Ilit/Ni'lin checkpoint. I Lapid was just south of my town so I knew how to walk there. From there I kind of got lost trying to take a scenic shortcut to highway 443. It was not a shortcut. I eventually arrived at an army base and the directed me to the highway. I cut through Macabim Re'ut and continued onto a trail that cut through a cow pasture.

I saw some people trying to fly a drone but I left before they succeeded.

I passed Mevo Horon, crossed the Jerusalem/Tel Aviv Northern Rail Line and continued on to the power plant. I walked halfway up a hill, did a hash dance and then looked at my map to decide if I wanted to walk all the way back or try something else. I ended up walking to the gas station at Sha'ar HaGai. Gas stations are amazing places to hitchhike from because people are standing around waiting for their gas to fill up. I hitched to Latrun and then to Shilat Junction. I then bought some endives (Passover bitter herb) and took another hitch home.

All in all, quite a successful day: 12.3 km walk plus getting a little lost to the hash, 2 km to the hitching post.
