Plans

We're already in Zigzag at my grandparent's cabin for some time in the wilderness, so this is the perfect opportunity for geohashing in the 45, -121 graticule. We'll head out to Frenches dome for some rock climbing, Clear Lake for kayaking, and finally to the geohash for some... geohashing!

Expedition

We set off down a gravel road, NF 507 and entered the Warm Springs reservation. There weren't any No Trespassing signs so we deemed it safe entry. I changed into my jeans from swim trunks as we lost internet connection. We reached a junction in the road where every way except straight had a No Trespassing sign, so we drove straight and hoped for the best. We got to a junction where, down a far less used gravel road, 2/10 of a mile away was the geohash! We parked it and started walking. 500 feet from the geohash, we took off into the forest.

A true expedition once more! We fought through trees and plants, my parents both still wearing shorts, and I had the bright idea to wear a black hoodie to keep my arms from getting scratched up. It was hotter than I expected! We finally made it to the geohash. Without access to a printer, the best I could do was write on a dead log with a sharpie. There weren't even any rocks nearby I could mark. I wrote "Geohash 7/22/23", snapped a selfie, and threw it in the direction of the hash. We headed back in a much more direct route than the way we came, made it back to the road, and headed out.

Distractions and Detours

At Frenches dome, my mom got on the harness and gave rock climbing a try, overcoming her fear of edges. I belayed my dad as he climbed way up the rock, and we headed out. Clear lake was a bust, there was no shade by the water's edge and we opted not to go kayaking because there were 3 of us and a 2 person kayak. With the hash nearby, we set off for the reservation.

After the expedition, we stopped by Frog Lake for some kayaking action before heading back to the cabin. In all, a jam packed day with lots of fun in the outdoors.
