Camping geohash achievement

From Geohashing
Revision as of 15:58, 21 February 2009 by imported>Robyn (Compromise: 4 p.m. on Saturday. And lets not make this too easy for people in Finland and northern Canada. Is five enough?)

Reaching coordinates is one thing, but true geohashers don't just photograph the GPS and run away. No real geohashers stay at the geohash all night. At least, to achieve this award they do.

Award yourself with achievement when you:

  • reach the coordinates before sundown (must be before 4 p.m. if it's a Saturday).
  • camp out within 1 km of the coordinates
  • stay at least until sunrise.
  •  you must remain at the coordinates for at least five hours, and stay over midnight

For areas where the sun does not rise and set daily the sunrise/sunset part of the achievement may be disregarded, but the fourth point above comes into play.

You can sleep in a tent, a box, build an iglu, or whatever shelter you want except pre-existing buildings or vehicles (no cars or camping vans). Sleeping under the open sky is allowed. Staying up all night partying fulfils the letter of the achievement, but what shape will you be in for the next day's geohash?

If you do this for seven days in a row, you are eligible for the Endurance Geohashing Achievement.
