What's left of the Chandeleur Islands constitute the eastern most part of the state of Louisiana.  They are the only land surface in [[graticule]] {{Today's location|lat=29|lon=-88|text=29N 88W}}.  They are home to one of the oldest US wildlife refuges.  A hundred years ago they supported a small human population and even a lighthouse.  In fact three lighthouses have been built there but hurricanes kept knocking them down; the last by hurricane Katrina in 2005. The infamous hurricanes of this century inflicted dramatic devastation here.  The little land now remaining above water seems to be eroding fast.
