The N36, W77 Graticule

The Roanoke Rapids graticule is a wonderful mixture of rolling farmland, small and large towns, forests, swamps, a beautiful state park, and Gaston Lake. It is home to large mammals (white-tailed deer and black bear), smaller and fuzzier critters such as opossums, rabbits, and squirrels, and migrating waterfowl. A notable feature of this area is an ancient mountain range, now weathered away, called the Fall Line. This line is most noticable in the outcropings found at Medoc Mountain State Park.

Saturday Meetups

  • NCBears - Successful N36 W77 Meetup on Saturday, Jan 03. Nice Geohash location just inside treeline near the entrance to the Stonehouse Timber Lodge at Lake Gaston. Did the No Batteries Geohash Achievement by triangulating off of storage building, road intersection, and distant tree line. Nice weather. Full report at 2009-01-03 36 -77.
