Plans

Expedition two of two spanning midnight - 2015-10-13 52 1 - 2015-10-14 52 0 - ETA 00:00.

This is reachable, only at low tide. It's fortunate that low tide tonight is at midnight UTC. This is 01:00 local time so I'll arrive an hour before low tide. This should be good enough. Fortunately I know these sand flats well enough to risk a night time expedition. It's a 6.3 km round trip, walking on the sand, all above the high tide line except for the final approach. The walk from Wells next the Sea is not too interesting so I'll be heading out from the Victoria Hotel along Lady Ann's Road at about 23:10.

Expedition

This went more or less to plan. There was a cold east wind so I diverted through the pine woods to get some shelter. Once I'd warmed up with the exercise, the cold wind was less of a problem. I reached the hashpoint a few minutes before midnight, got an evidence photo at the zero point and then sheltered in some marram grass for a couple of minutes before getting the midnight evidence photo. The return walk was easier. There was a tail wind and it was more interesting to walk on the beach. About 60 red lights were visible off shore. These marked wind turbines. Other marker buoys were flashing their coded signals, marking the navigable channels and telling the direction. Later in the season there will be thousands of geese here. Tonight I only heard one.

I was wrong about the tides. The hashpoint was in the wet sand but should be accessible, even at high tide by paddling.

This expedition gains a Déjà vu achievement. I have an earlier tracklog at wikiloc passing 15 metres from today's point.
