There was a very narrow lane - hard to park. A fast running stream blocked the first way into the wood. Later there was a crossing point. The wood was quite open with a mixture of very old, large trees and much smaller ones. Lots of animals must shelter there because the leaves had been destroyed and there were hoof prints everywhere in the soil and mud. These were not farm animal prints. Herds of deer must lurk there. This was another well timed arrival.
