SastRe.O and 1000 mosquitoes.
Plans
Get some sandwiches to go, grab Winterbuche, and bike after today's hash. It looks like I will have to walk into some "unpathed" forest area, but I expect it to be similar to 2019-02-27.
Expedition
Well, it started everything as usual. After breakfast and making the sandwiches, I had everything prepared to grab Winterbuche and bike together towards today's hash. The idea is to go firstly there, and after that search for some caches. I checked yesterday over the map and a Juggernaut achievement is not feasible, so no pressure. Still at home, I checked if I had sunscreen. Today is going to be sunny. Nope, none left (SPOILER Guess who arrived home red as a tomato).
Once after Levenshagen I was just the field over the forest area where the hash is, but from this side, there is no path towards there, so I had to go from the other side. No problem, that was according to plan.
Once in the other side, I take the path I checked from home, and at the end of this path, where the fields start, there I had to park Winterbuche. From here I had to do the last approach by feet. This little forest area has no paths, so I expected this expedition to be similar to a previous I had (2019-02-27)... Oh boy was I wrong!
And that is because Mother Nature can be a serious Bi**ch sometimes ;) The underforest war really dense and I had to follow some deer-made paths. Narrow ones. And now in June, the forest are freaking full of mosquitoes. And the soil is full of knee-high nettles, and I was wearing shorts. (Well, I always consider nettle stings are a state of mind, you must just get past that and not think about it). But the mosquitoes... I cannot stand them!
So, as I said first attempt following one of this deer-made paths and it has a big risk, and that is that suddenly I find a medium-width canal, easy enough to jump for a deer but... newsflash! I am not a deer. So, no crossing this side. 70 meters to go. New attempt, trying it west. Wow, that was a bad idea. More mosquitoes and nettles.. no apparent paths and then I had to add to these handicaps a fence. No crossing this way either. And... oh no! Velociraptor attack! Run! Sh**t, it's going after me, it has caught me! Mayday! But here in the forest there is no one to hear me. It caught my arms and legs, but I managed to escape. I couldn't capture it on my camera, damn it!
Well, here started that recurrent thought: "What the hell am I doing here?". Let's try east. Less trees but the narrow deer-paths goes through the nettles. As said, state of mind, just think of the hash. Here I fins the canal again, but I think I can jump it here. 5 minutes positioning myself, ok, it seems ok. JUMP! And... yes, left foot on the mud ^^ I had to. I mean, it was bound to happen. But, hey, I am on the other side, I don't know how I am to go back, but I am in the other side! And here new deer-path, and GPS starts saying, 70, 60, 40, 30, and that stupid grin appears. Yes, now I am going to reach it. Now I know what the hell I am doing here ;)
Once there I celebrated with 1000 mosquitoes reaching the hash. We were all ecstatic. We were all enjoying it together with hugs and high-fives. Lot's of high-fives, on my legs and neck, with their stings. Curious way mosquitoes high-five :/ (well, I was high-fiving them with the palm of my hand, against my leg or neck ;P) I mean, the mosquitoes were also trying to reach the hash, weren't they? So, let me hear it Mother Nature, who is whose bi**ch now, he??
Now.. how do I go back? (good question). Obviously I didn't take the same path, main reason, there were no real paths. So I let myself think I was following my GPS back, and I found a spot where I can cross the canal easily. Well now it's a bit late! My left food thanks you mother nature! hehe Naturally I took all of these with humour, it wouldn't be fun otherwise.
So, I scared some deer on the way back (they scared me equally with they sudden moves coming from nowhere) and back to Winterbuche! And it was warm, oh god. I mean, in the forest I was in the shade, but surrounded by mosquitoes. Here on the field, which had a surprising good smell, the sun was burning me. It's a tough decision, but my hate towards mosquitoes, say I preferred to suffer some sun, and continue with my bike.
This hash exhausted me mentally, I mean. After that, I couldn't. And I still managed to go after some caches, have a late lunch at Griebenow. Find an open Café there, and enjoyed some needed coffee (although they had no ice nor ice cubes; however I was lucky enough to find an open café a Sunday at 16:30). And... back home! 70km. Who could have said. Now I understand why I was so tired ;) My legs are burning, I am going to take a shower... but it was a nice expedition! :D
By the way, I hate mosquitoes, did I say that?
