Expedition
Going through my expeditions after the Dark Ages I found this expedition to be blank. It looks like someone created the page for me before I wrote it up. Then, because I didn't have a Red Link on my userpage yelling at me, I had no idea this wasn't a complete report. Granted, I was getting lazy with write-ups this year so it probably was a red link for a month or so. Now, I get to write this up almost a year later with hazy details.
I vaguely remember this expedition; by the calendar, I know it was a Saturday, and we went for the Official Saturday Meetup. I have been to this forest a couple times and I'm pretty sure I parked in the lot across the road from the Forest Road that goes into the area. I like to hike around and on the satellite images, I saw a road that kind of went straight and ended at about the same 'level' as the hash. I decided to walk up there to the end, then just head West and figured that would be easier than walking along the other road and then going at an angle. It was a longer hike, but I think it would have been really swampy by the lake coming at the hash from the South.
There were a few short ridges to walk over and around, and I remember it being further than I thought, but eventually I closed in on the hash and got a few pictures. I then headed back the way I came and was happy to see the road (means I didn't miss it and get lost). With plenty of time, we continued walking the other branch of the Forest Road and found the lake that was near the hash. The dogs played in the water for a bit before we continued. At the end of the road, there was, what appeared to be, an old logging road that continued so we followed that for a bit longer. Getting tired, we eventually turned around and made our way back to the car.
East Otto State forest is interesting but there aren't any marked trails. Although, there are plenty of campsites you can just pull into and camp for a couple days that are first come, first serve and are free.
