Plans
Kyrkazakh (talk): While getting coffee/tea with a friend of mine, I asked her, "Have you ever heard of geohashing?" She guessed it was like geocaching but with crypto, heh. Anyways I explained it and we decided to do today's 44 -92 together. After filling my tires with air we were good to go.
Expedition
Kyrkazakh (talk): (Note: the hash is on the traditional land of the Dakota people of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ -- Eyota is actually derived from a word meaning "greatest" or "most" in the Dakota language.) The way out to the hash was uneventful, we just caught up and joked and whatnot. After parking we walked through alternating raised and lowered rows of dirt, all cracked and clumped and covered in bits of corn stalk and husk. Then we realized there was a flattened pathway we could've been using the whole time. Anyway we ascended over a slightly steeper hill and made it to our destination! Pictures were snapped, ears were slowly freezing (ok maybe just mine.) Completely by accident, we arrived at almost exactly 4 pm local time on the dot. Yet there were no other geohashers in sight, can you believe it?!? Well, we walked back to the car, hurrying a bit after a pickup truck seemed to slow as it passed us by. Got in my car & we embarked on the return.
On our way back we passed by the strangest little collection of found-object metal sculptures. I would've almost missed it if not for the UFO whose speech bubble read No sign of intelligent life detected in your elected officials! or something of the sort. This was, unironically, placed adjacent to a TRUMP 2024 sign. You can't make this stuff up, folks. Anyways the metal sculptures (one was a bug, another red lips, the last one I don't even know) were great, but the "IF YOU WEREN'T INVITED HERE, THIS IS WHERE YOU TURN AROUND" sign (plus the social implications of the Trump sign) make us think the owner probably wouldn't be happy to see us admiring their work.
We skedaddled, ultimately I think (hope?) both enjoying our hashing experience. I had a good time, plus it's my first hash of the year, my first drag-along, and actually my first 44 -92 success in Minnesota. Kinda wild that hadn't happened yet.
