Category talk:I forgot to add categories

From Geohashing

Ah, yes. I'll be sure to "forget" to add categories in the future. That way you can once again feel superior by mocking someone who may have been around for a while, but who rarely ever uploads pictures and is unfamiliar with category conventions due to never using them.

This particular category serves no positive purpose. It just doubles the amount of work involved, one for the person adding this tag (with other categories), and one for the person removing it. -Srs0 12:37, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Actually it's meant as a humorous reminder, like a light hearted nudge. No offence was intended. I fully expect something of mine will end up in here at some point. --mykaDragonBlue [- i have no sig -] 12:42, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Please create a guide listing all categories to remember in the first place. You will see that there is no such thing as "forgetting to add categories". -- relet 12:43, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Take a look at the bottom of the upload page. --mykaDragonBlue [- i have no sig -] 12:45, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I stand corrected. :D -- relet 12:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I keep forgetting to include the Expeditions category. A list of categories one might forget, or a category indicating "I don't know what categories I should use" would not be a bad thing. However I'm guessing from Myka's comment that this discussion pertains mainly to photos, in which case anyone sophisticated enough to add that category could read the upload form and add the needed ones. More categories one might want to use on photos are linked in the Uploading photos help section.
srs0, I'll apologize on Myka's behalf that you felt mocked. I think it was a fair (although apparently false) assumption that someone who Geohashed on the very first Saturday of the sport, and who hails from the mighty Vancouver graticule would know photo category conventions and had merely forgotten to add them (as your partner in crime, thepiguy, often does). Take it as recognition of your long geohashing experience that you were teased rather than having Myka just add the categories for you, as would have been done for a newbie. -Robyn 18:39, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Robyn, you are completely correct, and much more elloquent than I. Yes, it was meant mainly for photos at the moment simply because for them the 2 meetup categories are suggested on the uploads page (and definitely not from a newbie). I totally agree a list of common categories, and their purposes (or 'how should I categorise X') would be very handy. I personally have to go a check everytime I upload / create something. Maybe I'll have time and start one tonight. --mykaDragonBlue [- i have no sig -] 23:48, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
No worries, all is forgiven. I overreacted. Also, unfortunately you're wrong Robyn, I didn't make it to the first Saturday (unfortunately), though I did make it before the second Saturday (and to the second meetup). Oh how I wish I had made it to the first one...
Also, I read the upload page at one point, but the categories note must have been added later. I never noticed it, sorry! If I don't add them next time, then I will have just forgotten. Now I know... -Srs0 12:37, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Huh. It's underneath every edit box too. The notice about categories is at the bottom of the page as I type this. I never noticed. My bad. -Srs0 12:44, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Thinking of making the categories note stand out a little, this test is one way that might work. --mykaDragonBlue [- i have no sig -] 02:41, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
