From Geohashing

Well done Sara, and congratulations on the bicycle geohash! A tip for shifting gears: it works better (with most gear types) if you stop pedaling for a second (like using the clutch on a manual transmission). Also, when going up hills, try to change down slightly before you think you have to, because the delay during the gear change will otherwise lose you momentum. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the reminder about baby wipes! I keep them in the house for cleaning spots of carpets (my son is nearly 7 now so I don't need them for him any more). I have now put some in MY geohashing bag :)
By the way, does that display indicate that you are 7.32 feet from the hash? That's definitely "co-ordinates reached", because most GPS units can't get down to that accuracy anyway. There's a chance you actually were standing on the correct point and the GPS didn't know.
All the best with future hashes!

Thanks, Marconencer. I'll try to keep those gear-shifting pointers in mind.
No, unfortunately none of the numbers on that display is the distance from the hash. I'm not sure what the numbers are - maybe the distance away from a straight line that connects the waypoint to the point where I was when I set the waypoint? A different screen on the GPS showed that I was about 50 feet from the hashpoint and yet another screen showed that the accuracy at that moment was about 20 or 25 feet. I'll continue experimenting to see how much of that information can be displayed at the same time. Google satellite view, which I didn't look clearly at before setting out, shows that the hashpoint is definitely inside the building.
Good luck to you too with your future hashes; I look forward to reading about them. Sara 00:49, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I understand, yes - silly me. I think that's the distance from where you are to the original planned straight-line path, which is something that probably isn't relevant unless you're hiking across the plains or moors :) P.S. The baby wipes actually got used yesterday after I ended up with a huge oily imprint of a gear wheel on my bare left leg, LOL! Glad you mentioned them - they worked a treat! --macronencer 10:32, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
