From Geohashing

Plans

Anyone who shows up will probably get a media attention achievement. An RNZ reporter will join me on the expedition. --Fivetonsofflax 15:29, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

That's great! Count me in (as long as it's somewhat reachable) Koepfel talk 16:08, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Is this going to happen in any case and in the Mannheim graticule? Or, otherwise, when will it be determined whether it will take place and which point the expedition will aim at? --Ekorren 14:38, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
It will take place, most probably in the Mannheim graticule. In case the point will be really far away and easier to reach in another graticule, we might go there. We will decide later today when we know the exact location. Fivetonsofflax 12:44, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

It's only a 4 km walk from Darmstadt Süd. Count me in! --ilpadre 14:37, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

We'll probably arrive in Darmstad TU-Lichtwiese at 14:50. That should give us enough time to be at the hashpoint at 16:00. Fivetonsofflax 14:51, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
I'll walk from Darmstadt Süd and be at the coordinates at 16:00 in any case (depending on if I can catch the 13:21 train in Heidelberg and how fast I walk I'll either have to wait 45 minutes or arrive just in time - but I'll probably be at the hashpoint at about 15:20). --ilpadre 15:11, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh, you're right. Starting from Darmstadt Süd would be smarter. I suppose we'll do this as well. We'll probably also take the 13:21 train. Fivetonsofflax 18:03, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Count me in, too. Might be a more expensive expedition (I'm currently at 15€ both ways for me, from Karlsruhe, unless we find some kind of group ticket?), but it'll be worth it. I'd probably also take the 13:21 one (S-Bahn from KA arrives at 13:11), I wouldn't mind taking an earlier train, though (since we are more than one person, we are allowed to move the saturday meetup time). Koepfel talk 18:11, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
So we'll probably go all the way together, that's nice! :) It's exactly 3 km from Darmstadt Süd (if you follow the hiking trails the Google maps planner doesn't know about), so we'll only need to walk about 30 to 40 minutes. Fun fact: The hashpoint is only 3.5 km from the 2010-01-06 coordinates (as the ring-necked parakeet flies). Still too far (and too cold) to check if my marker is still there. --ilpadre 18:16, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

About meeting in Heidelberg, the train to Darmstadt leaves on platform 3. Ekorren and me will probably be in Heidelberg an hour earlier (see schedule below), if we fail to meet during that time, I'd suggest we meet at the bottom of the north-west stairs at 13:15. Koepfel talk 06:41, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Ticket

In order to make the whole thing affordable, we can share a Wochenendticket for 37 EUR, which is valid for 5 people.

The ticket will be bought by Ekorren in the morning at Tübingen. Up to four other people may join in along the way. Please do not buy own tickets unless the number of people exceeds five or you need to take another train than the rest of the group.

If we share the ticket, it's only 7.40 per person in average. Less than even a single ticket with BC25 from Heidelberg to Darmstadt. If less than 5 persons join, it's a bit more but still affordable. --Ekorren 21:18, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

I'd do this, depending on what tickets the others need from Heidelberg. Koepfel talk 19:32, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Ekorren and me will also visit the hashpoint in 48 8, see below, I'll leave my home at about 8:00, Ekorren probably earlier (When?), any objections regarding the tickets until then. @Ekorren, if no objections, see you in Pforzheim. Koepfel talk 23:16, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
I plan to leave home around 6. Should really be in bed already... --Ekorren 23:23, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Media Coverage

April 1st, eh? Hopefully people won't think it's an April fools joke Koepfel talk 08:17, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I like that it will (hopefully) get published on that date. That way, people will get curious if it's an elaborate April Fools article or if there really are people doing that kind of thing. This will probably even lead to a deeper and longer-lasting interest in geohashing than an article on any other date. --ilpadre 10:32, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Congratulations. I read the article on the newspaper before I knew that it was you guys :). After my recent Geohash I read about this here. Cool. I think this gave some attention. Ryo 12:01, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
