From Geohashing

2012-03-23

I'm from the graticule to the south and probably can't make it, but Saturday's is right on the fairway of a golf course, and Friday's is only 3km or so away. Just sayin'.

If the weather is nice and the tide is low, this could be a nice Saturday geohash jaunt.

Off-Topic, but anyway: Robyn, zoom in on the satellite image for this one. There's a nice scene captured. --Zb 13:46, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
That's awesome. I was about to dismiss it as "yeah, zb just likes trains" when I realized that the train is a specialized one at the Boeing plant there, carrying an entire airplane fuselage, a 737, maybe. You'd have to be a keener airplane observer than me to tell from that. How did you happen to spot that? -Robyn 14:16, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
The person known on this wiki as Mar and me have the week off and so I happen to have time for random things, one of which is checking coords in the Puget Sound Area. Not that our week off is so awesome that we're actually there, but I still like looking at stuff at my other favorite place along the 48th parallel. <nerdcore> And hey, "just [...] trains", eh?! You could be right with guessing it's a 737. There don't seem to be mounting structures for tail-fitted engines, and the 737 has this smaller slope in front of the tail that might fit onto the white triangle visible NNE of the hole where the actual tail goes. Also, look at the shadow of what must be a big circular structure in front of the flight deck. The purpose must be: If the big metal circle fits under a bridge or beneath a signal pole, the fuselage will fit, too. </nerdcore> --Zb 16:01, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
That was as in "it's just that zb likes trains; there's nothing special here for me" not as in "zb only likes trains, he wouldn't know about planes." I know you know. And I still have an eye out for an old VOR for you. -Robyn 16:37, 15 April 2011 (EDT)
None taken, don't worry. (And anyway, I was rather hinting towards a meaning like "how can a train be just a train, when a train is always the coolest thing around," which, in itself, can't have too serious a meaning because a plane is involved with this particular train...) And thanks for looking for nice old electronic devices. No hurry, there are too many projects idling around the hose anyway. I hope the geohash to Birch Bay turns out nice! --Zb 05:02, 16 April 2011 (EDT)
I can't get Wade to come with me, and I don't want to go all by myself, so I think I will let it go for today. :-( - 14:03, 16 April 2011 (EDT)

Sadly, I'm pretty sick today, so we can't rent an airplane to get that sweet geohash sitting right on the taxiway at Skagit Regional. -Robyn 14:59, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

A spot in Birch Bay on my way home from Seattle that I simply had to try for, but could not reach. --Wenslayer 04:20, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Silver Lake Park on a Saturday.

This one is mine! Thepiguy 15:59, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to bike from my House, take the bus through the tunnel and then bike directly from the Lardner bus loop. The bus loop sounds like a good place to meet up if anyone wanted to do a bit of cycling together (or help a fellow geohasher through the border!). I have plans this evening so I'd like to be back fairly early. Who's up for a lunch geohash? Thepiguy 15:59, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Please take a lot of photos, I liked the place a lot when I was there some years ago.--Zb 18:38, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Ah we did it. Probably not as many photos as you might have liked. Pi and Rhonda took more. We'll see what they got. -Robyn 03:34, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

OMG it's on beautiful Orcas Island. Please go, everyone, and post pictures of the ferries and your bikes. I can't make it, I'm way off to the East (11E, to be precise, same lat., though)--Zb 18:12, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

It's a big island. It's there a lot. Today's is in a field, probably a no trespassing. I'll go someday, but not today. It's 106 km just from the US border to the ferry terminal. Too much to ride for a probable not-reached. -Robyn 18:22, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, let's just hope the island will remain in its place, as you say... Also, I'm sure that one day, the coordinates will be in Bellingham, right in the backyard of the folks who invented my nickname that also became my user name in this wiki... I'll put a note here if I find out that this happens.--Zb 18:32, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

July 19

Planning a meetup in North Cascades, if any are interested. See you between 4pm and 5pm - I've got a GPS and Camera --Thomcat 18:55, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

June 7

For Saturday consider the hashpoint in the Victoria graticule. It's on San Juan Island, a fun daytrip.

June 5

Today's location is on Interstate 5, so avid geohashers could qualify for the Speed_Racer_Geohash Achievement quite easily!

  • Correction, extreme zoom shows it to be just off the road, near a bend in Quilceda Creek.

May 24

  • With no other major compelling Saturday plans, I may be inclined to meet up. Thoughts? --Evan
  • Robyn - I'm in the Vancouver graticule but if the point is in the north, I'll sometimes try for it. (I did today but chickened at the border crossing. How not to sound crazy!?
  • It appears that the meetup point for Saturday is in the middle of the water between Camano and Whidbey. Anyone from this graticule going to one of the other close meetups? --Matt
    • Alternatively, the meetup could take place on the beach on Whidbey closest to the hash point.
      • That's funny, I was half-planning on visiting that beach at some point over the weekend, anyhow. See you there Saturday at 4pm! --Evan 15:15, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
