Talk:Fire safety achievement

From Geohashing

This achievement was proposed in the past, but has been rejected, because it is just another generic "bring X to the geohash" achievement which lacks originality and impressiveness. Please read the discussion page for more details.

As per the page proposed achievements: If an achievement has strong opposition and the reasons for opposition are not resolved through discussion, then the proposed achievements category is replaced with the rejected achievements category, the reason explained succinctly on the page, and the page otherwise marked to make sure it isn't confused with an achievements page.

  • Well then for the records I'll also oppose this, so it can fall out of limbo... Just too boring to become an achievement --HiroProtagonist 17:11, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose. There's no reason for it to exist, as it's neither very impressive nor significant. The amount of "bring X to the point" achievements that already exist bothers me, and more certainly aren't needed unless they're really convincing. --KerrMcF (talk) 00:28, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Discussion

Do not start a fire at the hashpoint solely to give yourself an excuse to activate the fire extinguisher. --starbird 10:26, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

This made me laugh. It's so random, but you can totally see an xkcd character carrying a fire extinguisher around for no reason. With starbird's amendment I support this achievement. -Robyn 16:15, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, it's lighter than a couch. And remember, Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires. --starbird 17:07, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

The achievement should clarify what a fire extinguisher is. Sand, Water and CO2 are excellent fire extinguishers readily available at most geohashes. -- relet 20:47, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Please give an example how one would gather a significant quantity of CO2 to be able to extinguish a fire with it. I think gathering water or sand at the location isn't really trying (it's the same thing as bringing ice to claim a Frozen Geohash), also the latter could be considered violating the "natural integrity of the area". However, there seem to be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_sand_bucket - maybe if such a dedicated bucket was brought on the expedition? There are also fire blankets. I think the equipment should be intended and approved for fighting fire. --The ru 06:53, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I love this one. So funny! --TheJosh 01:09, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Maybe we could have another one (slightly more serious) for bringing first aid kits? --The ru 06:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I made another proposal: First Aid Achievement --The ru 09:27, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
