Talk:Springfield, Massachusetts

From Geohashing

24 May 2008

Well, there's at least one other person here who's making these pages. I might go down to Blunt Park tomorrow, but I also am trying to put in a garden, so no guarantees.--zxo 128.119.70.252 19:36, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Waves. I set up the page. I actually live in Connecticut but the southern Springfield, MA geohashes are not too far away from where I live. (Would be just about 45-60 minutes to get to Saturday's event.) Not sure if I will make it but a visit to a park is much more enjoyable sounding than treking through someone's backyard. --KDinCT 19:45, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Cheers! I'm actually on the other side of Springfield... maybe 10 minutes from today's geohash. I agree that a park is a much better place, though. --zxo 128.119.70.252 20:05, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Ya me and two of my friends will be going to today's location at blunt park, we live one town over so it shouldnt be very difficult
Glad to see some people were able to make it. Sadly with gas at $4.12 I couldn't justify driving the round trip. Hopefully you all had a good time and were able to get some 'proof'. Feel free to make a page entitled 2008-05-24 42 -72 and link to it under notable dates. --KDinCT 21:10, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

How many states in this graticule, anyway?

It just spans over 3 US states, right? --Reinhard 07:04, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Looks like 4 to me. Which state do you not agree with? --joannac 07:12, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
I can't see the part that is in New York. -Robyn 07:53, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Connecticut | Massachusetts | Vermont | New Hampshire. No New York. What? --joannac 07:58, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
I was looking at the neighbouring graticules, assuming implied overlap. But okay there's a little sliver at the bottom north of Windsor Locks: that's CT; Springfield we know is in MA. At the top Bratleboro is in what, NH? So where's the fourth state? I can't load a better map. Lousy internet. -Robyn 08:12, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Bratleboro is basically on the NH/Vermont border. If you look at the map there's a silver line that does a blip at Hinsdale. That's the border. --joannac 08:19, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh, yes! You're right! There's Vermont in the Northwest and New Hampshire in the Northeast and the border goes mainly along IS-91 (or route 91?), that's why we couldn't see it. I'll take a closer look, when I'm visiting Mass in September. :-) --Reinhard 09:44, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
The border follows the Connecticut River. They built I-91 along the Vermont side of the river. --starbird 14:32, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Good luck Reinhard, I flew over this area at quite low altitude last fall, but I couldn't see any borders then, either. I'll have to trust starbird that they are there. -Robyn 18:27, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh, definitely. This is New England: you're never far from a border. --starbird 19:30, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
