Not too shabby; could be a fun way to celebrate 256 - approve --Thomcat (talk) 08:46, 27 May 2015 (EDT)
approve I really like it (almost level 6, yay)! But what about planned, but not (really) attempted expeditions? Counting: Actual expeditions? -- RecentlyChanged (talk) 12:16, 27 May 2015 (EDT)
- I've read the description again, you already thought about the expedition planning/actual expedition/reached thing. I would like counting the actual expeditions more, but I see the point in counting reached ones too. Can we distinguish them somehow? --- RecentlyChanged (talk)
- I think we should stick to the system already in use on pages like Most active graticules. I check out every potential expedition and recording these would get silly. Once I step out of my home, that's an expedition which can be counted. And it's a bonus if the coordinates are reached, counted separately. We'll need a global version of the ribbon too. --Sourcerer (talk) 03:49, 28 May 2015 (EDT)
I support being able to "level up" in real life like you would in a video game! Mystrsyko (talk) 11:23, 28 May 2015 (EDT)
- People, including me, seem to like the idea of levels so I've tweaked the wording of the proposed ribbon to reflect this. I've added proposed global examples too. --Sourcerer (talk) 12:13, 12 June 2015 (EDT)
I support this achievement, and also the distinction expeditions vs reached. - Danatar7 08:52, 30 May 2015 (EDT)
I approve of this achievement, even though I'm afraid it will be a while before I get the next level of either version of it. Jiml (talk)
Support. I think it's past time to have some sort of achievement for going out on a lot of expeditions. I agree with the ideas that planned expeditions should not be counted, and the idea of having separate 'levels' for attempted vs reached expeditions (currently level 6 by attempts, 5 by points reached) --Eldin (talk) 16:34, 18 June 2015 (EDT)
And another supporter. As a mathematichian I like the idea of counting (as you might already have guessed from my user page). DODO (talk) 16:43, 25 June 2015 (EDT)
- I may be going to renumber all my expeditions so they are zero indexed. I got a classy teacher wind-up award. I discussed counting with my 16+ aged students and complained that we ought to teach little kids to count starting from zero. One of them taught this to a much younger sibling resulting in the complaint from their teacher. Result! --Sourcerer (talk) 07:26, 28 June 2015 (EDT)
This proposal has been up almost a month, has support from 7 users (in 7 different graticules on 2 continents), and no objections. I think it's about time for someone to design a ribbon so we can make this an official achievement. --Eldin (talk) 16:28, 22 June 2015 (EDT)
- That was answered with a resounding silence. I guess everyone is too busy or perhaps not confident to create the template. I'd attempt it but it's not "etiquette" for the proposer to write the code. --Sourcerer (talk) 08:22, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
- I approve of you doing it. I have no idea how and not the time to learn it. I'm just telling you, so you know someone is thinking about it. --- RecentlyChanged (talk) 08:32, 17 July 2015 (EDT)
This achievement could equally well apply to a graticule as to an individual. Only the description and documentation for the template would need changing. Any comments ??? --Sourcerer (talk) 15:42, 7 October 2015 (EDT)
- This is a good idea, imo. --Fippe 11:03, 20 October 2015 (EDT)
- I implemented it in the template. --Fippe 11:40, 20 October 2015 (EDT)
A question to clarify: do puppet-master expeditions count when considering this achievement? I would say they don't. Tilley (talk) 05:51, 3 December 2015 (EST)
- And another one: do retro expeditions count? I feel they should count for expeditions, but I am not sure about coordinates reached. -- Malgond (talk) 09:05, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- I have kept two counts. One for expeditions, whether successful or not and another for coordinates reached. I'd suggest that puppets keep their own count. A 25 puppet would be pretty cool. There's no reason why retro expeditions should not be counted, perhaps keeping the retro counts speparate from any other totals. As long as it's clear what's being counted, I doubt if anyone will mind. It's only a game and the main goal is to have fun and share it with the community. --Sourcerer (talk) 20:12, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- I've edited the template to include retro = true optional parameter. However, it has become truly complicated now to express proper wording, spaces and upper/lower case. You may revert the edit if you feel that's not good. It will be still up to people to count retros together with normal hashes or separately. -- Malgond (talk) 22:09, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

I've been checked out since this was suggested, approved, and implemented -- but, I wanted to say that I think it's a really terrific idea. Thanks for making it happen, Sourcerer. Michael5000 (talk) 06:27, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
Possible Addition to Two to the N
Moved from Talk:Fibonacci achievement
I've made a gratuitous ribbon to demonstrate what this achievement would look like if paired with the Two to the N achievement. This would not alter the previous or future ribbons for the Two to the N achievement but due to the similarities between the two achievements, it makes sense to add it as an additional feature. I have not changed the Two to the N achievement but would be willing to do so should this be supported. Due to the nature of the gratuitous ribbons, the achievement text does not match 1-to-1. This would not be the case for the actual achievement. The achievement would use the format F0 = 0, F1 = 1, F2 = 1, F3 = 2, etc.
{{Two to the N achievement
| count = 3
| latitude = 56
| longitude = -3
| date = 2024-02-20
| name = KerrMcF
| reached = true
}}
appears as:
KerrMcF earned the Two to the N achievement
|
Adding true to a 'fibonacci' factor would change the achievement:
{{Two to the N achievement
| count = 6
| latitude = 56
| longitude = -3
| date = 2024-02-20
| name = KerrMcF
| reached = true
| fibonacci = true
}}
would appear as:
KerrMcF earned the Fibonacci achievement
|
--KerrMcF
My original position on this addition was non-opposal. However, I changed my mind, I don't think it is a good idea add Fibonacci numbers since the achievement could then grow infinitely. Prime numbers could be added next. Then Factorials. Powers of 3. The OEIS contains thousands of sequences, and I don't think we should add them all, having one is good enough. --Fippe (talk) 21:32, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
