Expedition

We have had a pretty cold and rainy spring, but this weekend was going to be a nice one and the hash was very much within cycling distance. My mom is an avid cyclist too and I thought she might be interested in getting dragged along to a Geohash and an estimated 30 mile/48 KM (round trip) ride. I think the wind was even blowing backwards from the normal direction which was ideal (if I remember correctly as I write this up very late).

She was very interested in going and curious to see what this Geohashing thing was all about. I gave us over an hour to get there to make sure we were on time for an Official Saturday Meetup and she met me at my house around 14:45. Earlier in the day, I had written up a 'turn by turn' to make sure we didn't get lost, noting all of our turns along the way. I also studied the map a bit to help keep it in my head as we rode. On the way out, there were a few roads that had less than ideal shoulders, but most cars gave us room to ride. Nearly to the hash, I did have one old idiot pull up next to me and make hand motions at me to 'get off the road'. I restrained myself and just shoo'd him along.

Once in the windy roads of suburban hell, we were able to make our way through and to the hash corner where we stopped for some trail-mix and pictures. I explained I'd be doing a GPS dance to find the spot before we could take the pics, but my mom was game and had fun, even if she really didn't get it. With the wind somewhat at our backs on the ride home, I ended up missing one turn and ended up taking a slight detour around before getting back on track.

Arriving in my neighborhood, I was just short of the 30 mile mark so had to go around the block to get there before putting the bike back in the garage. It was the first Official Sat Meetup in a long time, but we had a fun bike adventure.
