* Muahaha! That's awesome. Needs more lawyering though. Do the skis have to be worn for any portion of the trip, or at all? i.e. Could someone get this achievement by simply carrying a pair of skis to the geohash? By skiing two metres? By carrying a pair of child's skis and not even having any ski boots? Do you have to have poles? Clearly the intention of the achievement has someone walking out the door in cross country ski boots, carrying his skis, then putting the skis on as soon as he has passed the salted urban streets and sidewalks. But if someone in Florida decides he's going to get this achievement (which you have to admit is in the spirit of geohashing), what's the minimum he can do? I'd say, for example, that the person has to wear ski boots that fit the skis (hmm, if someone only has downhill ski equipment, can they carry their boots and skis?). What about snowboards? -Robyn 15:55, 12 May 2009 (UTC) | * Muahaha! That's awesome. Needs more lawyering though. + | :*Of course they should be used, not just carried. It's hard to come up with any specific number, though. Maybe at least half the distance has to be on skiis, the rest on foot? I don't think there should be any ski boot requirement, it depends on the binding system. The simplest kind (the one I use myself, and also the swedish army) is just a strap around the heel, so any kind of shoe can be used. In Sweden we have the annual ski race Vasaloppet, about 90 km. Then there's this one guy that does the same distance, on skis, in the summer. Florida residents are more than welcome to attempt this. :-) This achievement should probably also include rollerskis, with the same conditions. Maybe I should also point out that even when I have used skis on most of my expeditions, none of them are valid for this achievement since I didn't start skiing from my home. If it would be approved, it would be something for me and others to strive for, to get to those rare hashpoints that are almost within comfortable skiing distance. --The ru 17:35, 12 May 2009 (UTC) | ||
P.S. Can you please put :Category: Proposed achievements instead of the eventual category on the templates for proposed achievements, e.g. the first aid one? The real category can come later. | P.S. Can you please put :Category: Proposed achievements instead of the eventual category on the templates for proposed achievements, e.g. the first aid one?
