I am Josh, the geekiest college student you know. I am currently a Computer Science major at Dordt College, a small college in Northwest Iowa. I am very interested in GPS/geolocation stuff and of course love the xkcd comic, so geohashing is a given. I hope to get meet some others here as well. I have only actually gone out to a location once with some friends when it was really close to Dordt, but that was a couple months ago before I found this wiki and knew there was achievements! Anyways, I hope to be making some meetups on Saturday that are located in the [[43,-96]] graticule and some in the surrounding graticules if they are closer. Can't wait. Feel free to contact me if you want to get together. I will be much more inclined to go looking if there is someone else that is going to be in the area.

I had gone to one geohash before but that was a long time ago and I plan to make my visits a little bit more frequent now that I have an account and all. Made it to the exact spot at around 15:00 local time. I am now hooked. Can't wait for the next one that is close enough. It was a bit chilly, nearly below zero degrees fahrenheit, And only a 100 ft or so off the road right in the middle of a corn field, just south of an acreage. The snow was a good two feet deep the whole way, so it wasn't easy, but I had to get to ground zero! Will post a pic or two when I get them off my G1.

After reading a bit more about achievements(which now really have me hooked) I decided to go in the early morning hours before work to get the cold temperature achievement. Made it to the exact spot at around 07:00 local time. I didn't have a thermometer(you can check weather at Hawarden, IA on Tuesday January 5 at 7am) The temperature was near -18F. I think that is a record! Ya for me!

I had a couple of recent geocaches between me and the hash, so I decided to make a day out of it and get my first "meetup." No one showed up, and I was there from right before 16:00 till about 16:30. I didn't really expect anyone to show up, but thought I would stay a while anyway. This one was only feet off the road, which was good, because it would have been too cold to stay outside for 1/2 an hour. Since there has only been on previous attempt [User:ImMute] ever, and he didn't claim it, I am going to say I got the Virgin Graticule for (43,-96)! Really addicted now, just have to get some more people in the area involved.

Hey!

Anyways, I hope to be making some meetups on Saturday that are located in the 43,-96 graticule and some in the surrounding graticules if they are closer. Can't wait. Feel free to contact me if you want to get together. I will be much more inclined to go looking if there is someone else that is going to be in the area.

Geohashes I've Scouted

1. On Wednesday 2009-12-30. This was my first official geohash! Just stumbled across this wiki the other day and didn't know there was such a following.

2. On Tuesday 2010-01-05. No geohash was within 50 miles until today. I was going to hit it up after work, but the low temperature for the night was predicted at -21F. Ya for me!

3. On Saturday 2010-01-09. Without much to do on Saturday, the geohash was only 30 miles or so from my residence.
