Location

A residential street near Birkenwerder S-Bahn station.

Participants

Plans

Take the S-Bahn to Birkenwerder - ETA 19:21. Walk to the hashpoint. Phoenix might drive. Later have dinner at the heavenly pagode.

Expedition

  • We have a plan! Yay! Also, this is a test of the hashdroid App. -- relet @52.527869,13.31853 14:22, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

So, eventually we went by car. The buses were operating a bit erratically, and besides the warm fuzzy feeling to have used the public transport system, we didn't see the point if Phoenix would take the car anyway not to go together. We all met at relet's place, and headed due north to Birkenwerder.

Arriving at the hashpoint, we discovered the point to be in the middle of a street in a traffic-calmed zone. That means, the legal speed limit is formally defined as "walking speed", or legally as "significantly less than 20km/h". After finding our way through the narrow residential streets, we passed the hash at idling speed.

We then proceeded to park the car, and decorate the gate of the house next to the geohash with a lovely little snowman. His mother would be proud. We also left a card (and a pencil) and took the usual stupid grin and proof pictures.

Earlier, when we were at roughly 300m distance of the geohash, we had discovered a sign pointing in its exact direction, claiming a "water treading facility" in exactly 300m. However, this facility proved to be at the end of a small footpath diverging from the street, in a nearby stream. Water treading, as healthy as it is supposed to be, was a little too hardcore for us at the current temperatures. We tested the thickness of the ice and evaluated the construction, but soon were drawn away by the prospect of a hot dinner.

We then drove a very short distance to the Heavenly Pagode, a superlativistic Chinese restaurant at the outskirts of the city. The food was good and plenty, and we had to head home with a few doggy packs.
