Plans
Expedition two of two spanning midnight - 2015-08-23 52 1 - 2015-08-24 52 1 - ETA 00:00
There might be livestock and restricted access but it's worth a try, especially as land hashpoints this month are as rare as hen's teeth.
At Yarn Hill, saint Botolph reputedly drove away ghosts and marsh demons in order to build his minster. As this is a midnight expedition, it could get scary!
Expedition
- Arrived. -- Sourcerer (talk) @52.1513,1.5445 00:01, 24 August 2015 (GMT+01:00)
This was more challenging than some. There was a wide field entrance to park (lawn grass for turf rolls). The electric fence visible on Google Street View had gone so there was easy access to the opposite field margin track. The moon set more or less as I arrived so there was little more than star light. There were well maintained farm access roads until the the last hundred metres. My approach was on the wrong side of a drainage ditch in order to avoid possible livestock. On this side, the closest distance was 15 metres so I went a bit further, found a gate into the field where there were no animals. After one failed attempt to find a crossing point for the drain, I located it and a backtrack of 150 metres took me to the zero point.
On the return walk, lightning strikes could be seen over the North Sea. This weather had crossed 52, 1 about four hours earlier. The grass and bushes were still very wet.
